You’ve just landed at Incheon International Airport. Now comes the first real decision of your Korea trip: how do you actually get to Seoul?
There are four main options — each with a different tradeoff between cost, speed, and convenience. This guide covers all of them with current fares, travel times, and honest advice on which one to use.
The Quick Answer
| Option | Travel Time | Cost (approx.) | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| AREX Express Train | 43–51 min | ₩13,000 | Speed, no luggage hassle |
| AREX All-Stop Train | 60–66 min | ₩4,150–₩4,750 | Budget travelers |
| Airport Limousine Bus | 60–90 min | ₩17,000 | Destinations outside subway reach |
| Taxi | 60–90 min | ₩65,000–₩80,000 | Groups, heavy luggage, late arrivals |
Option 1: AREX Express Train (Fastest)
The Airport Railroad Express (AREX) Express is the fastest way from Incheon to central Seoul. It runs nonstop from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 directly to Seoul Station.
Travel time:
– From Terminal 1: 43 minutes
– From Terminal 2: 51 minutes
Fare: ₩13,000 one way (adult). Discounted tickets available through platforms like Klook or Trazy if you book ahead.
Schedule: Trains depart every 20–40 minutes, more frequently during peak hours. First departure from Terminal 2 is at 05:15, last departure at 22:40.
How to board: Follow the signs to AREX in the arrivals hall. You’ll find the station on the basement level. Seats are assigned — buy your ticket at the counter or self-service kiosk before boarding. Credit cards accepted.
Pro Tip: The AREX Express is by far the most predictable option. Unlike taxis or buses, it doesn’t get caught in traffic — what you see on the schedule is what you get.
Option 2: AREX All-Stop Train (Most Affordable)
The same AREX system runs a second, slower service that stops at multiple stations along the way. It costs significantly less and is a practical choice if your destination is along the line.
Travel time:
– From Terminal 1: about 60 minutes to Seoul Station
– From Terminal 2: about 66 minutes
Fare:
– From Terminal 1: ₩4,150
– From Terminal 2: ₩4,750
You’ll need a T-Money card or cash to pay — the all-stop service uses the standard subway fare system.
Key stops: Digital Media City, Hongik University Station (Hongdae), Gongdeok, Seoul Station.
Who should use this: If you’re staying near Hongdae or anywhere along the subway line, this is excellent value. The savings compared to the Express are significant, and the extra 15–20 minutes is rarely a real issue after a long flight.
Option 3: Airport Limousine Bus
Korea’s airport limousine bus network covers large parts of Seoul and its surroundings, including many areas that aren’t close to a subway stop.
Fare: ₩17,000 (standard routes, adult)
Travel time: 60 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic and your destination. Gangnam can take 90+ minutes during rush hour.
How to pay: Purchase your ticket at a kiosk or counter before boarding — T-Money is not accepted for airport departures. Cash and card are accepted at the kiosk.
Key routes:
– Bus 6002 — Hongdae, Sinchon, Ewha, Gwanghwamun
– Bus 6009 — Gangnam Station, Sinsa-dong, Yangjae
– Bus 6015 — Mapo, Gongdeok, Myeongdong area

Stops and schedules are posted at the bus platforms outside the arrivals exit. Look for signs marked “Limousine Bus” or “공항버스.”
Pro Tip: If you’re staying in Gangnam or an area far from the AREX line, the limousine bus is often more convenient than taking the train and transferring. Just account for traffic variability.
Option 4: Taxi
A taxi gets you door to door, no transfers, no luggage management on stairs or platforms.
Fare to central Seoul (Myeongdong, Hongdae): approximately ₩65,000–₩80,000. Traffic and exact destination will affect the final meter.
Night surcharge: Expect 20–30% more between 22:00 and 04:00.
How to get a taxi: Dedicated taxi pick-up zones are located outside the arrivals exits at both terminals. For app-based booking, Kakao T (KakaoTaxi) is the dominant platform in Korea — it works with foreign phone numbers and credit cards, and shows you a fare estimate before you confirm the ride.
Who should use this: Taxis make the most sense for groups of 3–4 splitting the cost, travelers with a lot of luggage, or anyone arriving late at night when other options are less frequent.
Before You Leave the Airport: Get a T-Money Card
A T-Money card is a reloadable transit card that works on the subway, city buses, and the AREX all-stop service. If you’re taking any public transport during your trip, you’ll want one.
Where to buy at Incheon Airport: CU and GS25 convenience stores in the arrivals halls of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Also available at AREX vending machines.
Cost: ₩2,500–₩3,000 for a basic card. The card comes with zero balance — load it separately with cash at the convenience store or any subway station machine.
Note: credit cards cannot be used to reload a T-Money card. Bring some Korean won cash for this.
Which Option Is Right for You?
Take the AREX Express if: you want the fastest, most reliable connection and don’t mind paying ₩13,000.
Take the AREX All-Stop if: you’re on a budget, you’re heading to Hongdae or anywhere along the subway line, and you have the extra 20 minutes to spare.
Take the Limousine Bus if: your destination is in Gangnam, Mapo, or another area well-served by bus routes but inconvenient by subway transfer.
Take a taxi if: you’re traveling with 3+ people splitting the cost, you have heavy luggage, or you’re arriving very late at night.
